Volunteers

The Museums Strategy for Wales Action Plan 2010-2015 states that the sector will: "Engage local communities through providing opportunities to volunteer and become involved in museum services."

Volunteers do vital work and without them many museums would find it diffcult to carry on. The work that volunteers do can range from collections based to documentation to workshop facilitation, gallery interpretation or helping out with events and marketing. Volunteers may be teenagers on work placement, individuals who love history and have a few hours to spare or people trying to get into the museum sector and gain some valuable experience.

Volunteers need to be treated as a valuable and respected members of the workforce. There are lots of things for museums to consider whilst working with volunteers.
