The Federation of Museums and Art Galleries of Wales presents the
2018 Wales Museums Conference
Thursday March 15th 2018 10.30 start.
Venue: Cardiff Story Museum.
Theme: Museum Activism
In an era of fake news and alternative facts, studies have shown that the public trust museums more than politicians, newspapers and the media. In our duty to the communities we serve, should we be ‘impartial’ documenters and reflectors of our society or do our responsibilities go further? Should we be more actively involved in trying to make a difference and create cohesive communities? Many museums are now being more activist in their approach, sometimes using traditional activist methods, sometimes in small, discrete ways, campaigning through their programming and activity around themes such as migration, sustainability and inequality, to bring about change.
Registration now open.
Booking form attached. Please book early as places are limited.
The Federation is grateful for the support of Welsh Government for this event. Keynote speakers: Sharon Heal (Museums Association); Bethan Jenkins AM (Chair: Culture, Welsh Language and Communications Committee).
Other speakers from: Cardiff People First; Big Pit National Coal Museum; Tredegar House (NT).
There will be plenty of time for discussion and networking.
